Ranchi: Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has raised serious concerns over the delay in processing lakhs of post-matric scholarship applications in Jharkhand, accusing the state government of neglecting students’ education. He said the prolonged pendency has left students from poor and middle-class families unable to pay fees, buy books, or afford hostel expenses.
Students Forced Into Debt To Continue Education
Marandi highlighted that many parents are being forced to take loans to ensure their children’s education is not disrupted. “It is unfortunate that students in Jharkhand have to resort to protests for basic educational needs like scholarships, which should have been a tool to support their dreams,” he said, urging the Chief Minister to address the issue urgently and release scholarship funds without delay.
Collapse of Health Services Adds to Public Anger
Alongside the scholarship issue, Marandi also criticized the government for the poor state of healthcare in Jharkhand. He shared incidents where patients died waiting for ambulances for hours. In one shocking case, a woman died in Gumla’s Sadar Hospital after waiting five hours for an ambulance that never arrived. Her family even called the District Commissioner 12 times, but received no help. Marandi called the situation “inhumane” and a reflection of a failing system where citizens are left to fend for themselves.
