Ranchi: Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Jharkhand still has 608 roads pending construction, with 60 projects yet to be awarded. Out of the total 8,451 roads planned under PMGSY in the state, 7,843 have been completed so far.
Slow Progress in 2025–26 Financial Year
For the financial year 2025–26, only six percent of the targeted road construction has been achieved. Out of 3,152 kilometres planned for the year, merely 180 kilometres have been built so far, with ₹353 crore already spent.
Delays in Extremism-Affected Areas
In areas affected by extremism, PMGSY includes 303 road projects. Of these, 243 have been completed, while construction on 60 roads remains pending. One project is yet to be awarded. Meanwhile, all 300 roads planned under the PM Janman Yojana have been completed.
Four-Year Performance Highlights Major Gaps
Between 2019–20 and 2023–24, the state aimed to construct 10,060 kilometres of rural roads but managed to complete only 6,898 kilometres. A total of 3,162 kilometres remain unfinished.
