Dumka: Despite being Jharkhand’s sub-capital, Dumka still does not have a direct train connection to New Delhi, forcing passengers to rely on indirect and time-consuming routes via other cities.
Long Routes Increase Time and Cost
Dumka is an important administrative and educational hub, with residents frequently travelling to Delhi for education, employment, medical treatment and official work. However, the absence of a direct train means passengers must first travel to Ranchi, Bhagalpur, Howrah or Patna, significantly increasing travel time, expenses and inconvenience.
Rail Users Raise Development Concerns
Rail passengers argue that the lack of direct connectivity reflects poorly on development claims, especially for a sub-capital city. The Jharkhand Rail Users Organisation has raised the issue and urged local MP Nalin Soren to take up the matter with the Railway Ministry.
Demand for Immediate Action
According to the organisation, introducing a direct Dumka–Delhi train would benefit lakhs of people across the Santhal Pargana region and accelerate regional development. Residents remain hopeful that elected representatives will take concrete steps to address this long-standing demand.
