Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah sounded the election bugle in Kolkata on Tuesday, asserting that a BJP government in West Bengal would decisively act against illegal infiltration, restore the state’s cultural pride, and put Bengal back on the path of development ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
BJP Steps Up Attack on TMC Over Security and Governance
Addressing a press conference, Amit Shah accused the Trinamool Congress government of pushing West Bengal into an era of fear, corruption, and unchecked infiltration over the past 15 years. He said illegal infiltration is not just a state issue but a serious national security concern. Shah alleged that the Mamata Banerjee government has failed to safeguard borders and protect the cultural and social fabric of the state.
Promise of Border Control and Cultural Revival
The Home Minister declared that if BJP forms the government in West Bengal after April 15, 2026, the state’s borders would be effectively sealed to stop infiltration, a task he said only the BJP is capable of executing. He promised the revival of “Bangla Gaurav” and Bengal’s cultural heritage, invoking the legacies of Swami Vivekananda, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Rabindranath Tagore, and Syama Prasad Mukherjee as guiding inspirations for a renewed Bengal.
Development, Welfare, and Historical Reminder
Shah assured that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, a BJP government would accelerate development, focus on welfare of the poor, and revive Bengal’s lost glory. He also recalled December 30 as a proud day in Indian history, noting that on this date in 1943, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the flag of free India at Port Blair, linking the BJP’s campaign to Bengal’s nationalist legacy.
