Nagpur: Ahead of the T20 International series starting Wednesday in Nagpur, New Zealand have added all-rounder Christian Clarke to their squad as injury cover, following fitness concerns over Adam Milne and Michael Bracewell.

Injury Concerns Prompt Squad Change

Fast bowler Adam Milne sustained an injury while playing in the SA20 League, while spinner Michael Bracewell picked up a left-leg injury during fielding in the third and final ODI played in Indore. With both players under medical observation, the New Zealand team management decided to include Clarke primarily as a backup option for the opening matches of the series.

Clarke’s Recent Form Impressed Selectors

Christian Clarke had an impressive outing in the recent ODI tour, where he claimed seven wickets, including two key dismissals of Virat Kohli. Head coach Rob Walter praised Clarke’s performances, stating that he showcased his ability to deliver under pressure and demonstrated strong potential at the international level.

Team Arrives in Nagpur with High Confidence

Coach Rob Walter said the team reached Nagpur in high spirits after winning the ODI series in Indore. He highlighted the excellent teamwork and multiple standout performances during the tour. Walter added that having sufficient pace-bowling options for the first three T20s was crucial and that this tour would also allow Clarke valuable time with the squad on his first visit to India.

New Zealand Squad for T20 Series

The New Zealand squad includes Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Christian Clarke (first three matches), Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Jack Foulkes, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Bevon Jacobs, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Robinson, and Ish Sodhi.
