South Africa kicked off their three-match T20 series in style with a commanding 8-wicket victory over the West Indies in the first game. Led by a blistering unbeaten knock from captain Aiden Markram and backed by disciplined bowling, the team showcased solid preparation ahead of the T20 World Cup. With this win, South Africa lead the series 1–0.
West Indies Post Competitive Total
Batting first after losing the toss, West Indies started aggressively and posted 173 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Brandon King and Johnson Charles put up a 39-run opening stand, but Charles soon fell to spinner Keshav Maharaj. Corbin Bosch dismissed King shortly after. Despite a few cameos, West Indies could not accelerate further and settled for a modest total.
Markram and Rickelton Steer Chase with Ease
South Africa, in response, chased down the 174-run target with ease, losing just two wickets. Opener Luan-Dre Pretorius and Markram put on 83 runs for the first wicket before Pretorius was dismissed for 44 by Hayden Walsh. Ryan Rickelton then joined his skipper and scored an unbeaten 40, contributing to a 93-run partnership. The Proteas sealed victory with 13 balls to spare.
