Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has asked AIIMS Deoghar to submit a detailed affidavit regarding the availability and preparedness of burn ward facilities, as part of hearings on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by MP Nishikant Dubey and taken up suo motu by the court.
Daily Burn Cases and Treatment Infrastructure Under Scrutiny
The bench, comprising Chief Justice MS Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar, directed AIIMS Deoghar to disclose the daily number of burn injury cases the hospital receives and the treatment infrastructure currently in place for such emergencies.
Emergency Facility Still Unclear
During earlier hearings, the court had questioned whether emergency burn treatment had commenced at the newly constructed ward. This query stemmed from concerns following the August 2022 Dhanbad incident, where a minor girl was burned alive while sleeping. She later died during treatment at RIMS Ranchi, prompting the court to take suo motu cognizance.
Nishikant Dubey Demands Better Facilities
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has consistently raised concerns over the lack of basic medical infrastructure at AIIMS Deoghar and urged the court to expedite development of essential wards like the burn unit.
The court has directed AIIMS to file its affidavit and explain whether any steps have been taken since the earlier hearings.
