Tehran: The United States has carried out airstrikes on Iranian missile storage sites located near the Strait of Hormuz, using powerful 5,000-pound bunker-buster bombs. The operation targeted coastal missile facilities believed to threaten international shipping routes in the strategic maritime corridor.

US Targets Missile Facilities Threatening Shipping Routes

According to the US Central Command, the strikes were aimed at destroying Iranian cruise missile launch sites positioned near the Strait of Hormuz. These missiles were considered a direct threat to global maritime trade passing through the narrow sea route.

Officials said multiple deep-penetration bombs were successfully dropped on fortified missile positions located along Iran’s coastline near the strait.

Strategic Importance Of The Strait Of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, with nearly 20 percent of global oil suppliespassing through the route. The ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel has led to disruptions in maritime movement in the region.

Iran had earlier tightened control over the passage and warned vessels navigating through the area. Reports indicate that Iranian forces have deployed missiles, drones, and naval mines to target ships moving through the strait.

US Acts Without NATO Support

Reports suggest that the United States launched the strike independently after NATO countries declined to participate in military operations in the Strait of Hormuz. Former US President Donald Trump reportedly criticized NATO allies for refusing to support the mission.

Global Energy Markets On Edge

The tension in the region has triggered fears of a global oil supply crisis, as several fuel-laden ships have avoided passing through the strait due to security concerns. While Iran has reportedly allowed some Asian countries, including India, to continue using the route, the passage remains restricted for many Western vessels.
