New Delhi: Internal tensions within the Aam Aadmi Party have intensified after Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha was removed from the deputy leader’s post, triggering sharp public criticism from senior party leaders and exposing growing cracks within the organization.
Leaders Question Chadha’s Silence and Loyalty
Senior leaders including former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena openly questioned Chadha’s stance, accusing him of avoiding key public issues and hesitating to challenge Narendra Modi. She raised concerns over his silence on issues like the LPG crisis and alleged electoral irregularities, suggesting that his absence during crucial protests weakened the party’s efforts.
Other leaders echoed similar sentiments, stressing that party members are expected to actively raise issues affecting the public and adhere to the party’s ideological stand.
Action Justified as Discipline, Allegations of ‘Compromise’
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann defended the move, calling it a routine disciplinary action against those deviating from the party line. He stated that going against the party whip in Parliament invites consequences and hinted that Chadha may have acted inconsistently with party expectations.
AAP leader Anurag Dhanda further alleged that Chadha had been reluctant to confront the central government and failed to support key party initiatives, reinforcing the perception of internal discord.
BJP Attacks AAP Leadership Amid Rift
The controversy also drew reactions from the Bharatiya Janata Party, with leaders criticizing Arvind Kejriwal and claiming the party has become centered around a single individual. The BJP argued that such internal conflicts reflect deeper structural issues within AAP’s leadership and functioning.
