Ranchi: JMM Central General Secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya on Monday held a press conference at the party office, targeting the central government over irregularities in the NEET examination and the outcome of the Rajya Sabha election.
NEET Controversy
Bhattacharya acknowledged the Indian Air Force’s role in safely transporting question papers but said the conducting agency and the central government must not escape accountability. He questioned why even a single examination cannot be conducted properly and alleged that the education system is gradually being handed over to corporate interests, making medical education increasingly unaffordable for ordinary students. Taking a dig at the government, he said if the armed forces and central agencies need to be deployed to secure exams, the same should be done for all other examinations too, while asserting that the army should not be required under normal circumstances. He demanded the resignation of the Human Resource Minister, citing student suicides linked to the NEET controversy.
Rajya Sabha Cross-Voting
On the Rajya Sabha results, Bhattacharya said the votes received by alliance candidates show that the alliance MLAs stood by their leadership. He deflected direct questions on action against cross-voting MLAs, saying an internal review meeting will be held soon to analyse the election results.
Shibu Soren to Receive Padma Bhushan
Bhattacharya announced at the end of the press conference that Kalpana Soren and Shibu Soren’s wife have gone to Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the late Dishom Guru Shibu Soren will be posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan.
