New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear the case relating to DGP appointment on September 22, with a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana set to take up the petition.
Case Linked to Jharkhand’s DGP Appointment Rules
The matter before the Supreme Court concerns Jharkhand, as it relates to the DGP appointment rules framed by the state government, the validity of which was challenged by Babulal Marandi in the High Court. The Supreme Court subsequently transferred the petition to itself from the High Court.
Amicus Curiae Flags Two Provisions as Non-Compliant
Acting on the Supreme Court’s direction concerning the appointment rules, the Amicus Curiae appointed in the matter has submitted an opinion, stating that two provisions of the rules go against the Supreme Court’s own guidelines. The state government is now required to present its position on the matter.
