Assam: Himanta Sarkar strict against criminals, 23 shot in police custody, five dead, opposition attackers

504 people related to animal smuggling arrested

Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the Vidhan Sabha on Thursday that in the last two months, 504 people related to cattle smuggling have been arrested and four of them were injured in police firing. It also said that the police has tried to treat the accused in the best possible manner so far. He said that it is important to express sympathy with someone. Also, expressing condolences in wrong cases was termed as very dangerous.

The Assam Human Rights Commission had on July 7 demanded an inquiry from the government to clarify the status of the deaths of the accused killed in police firing. Naba Kamal Bora, a member of the commission, had said that according to the reports, all those killed were in custody. He was handcuffed, so we want to know what really happened.
