New Delhi: An American study has claimed that between January 2020 and June 2021, about 5 million people have died due to Kovid-19 in India. This has been shown in the report released by Washington’s Center for Global Development (CGD) on Tuesday. According to the organization, serological studies, house-to-house surveys, official data of municipal bodies at the state level and international estimates have been made the basis of the report.

Three estimates have been made regarding the death toll.

Let us inform that three estimates have been made in the report regarding the death toll. In every estimate, the figure of 4 lakh deaths in a day was seen many times. According to the lowest estimate made in the study, there were 34 lakh more deaths than the official figures. This estimate has been made on the basis of trends of municipal bodies of seven states.

Second estimate claims 40 lakh deaths

The second estimate is based on international estimates of mortality by age. In this, about 40 lakh deaths have been said. If you look at the report, the third estimate is based on the analysis of the Consumer Pyramid Household Survey. It has been told that more than eight lakh people from all the states were included in the survey. In this estimate, more than 49 lakh people have been estimated to have died due to Kovid.

According to the report, the deaths due to Kovid-19 are more than the official figures. According to this, the number of people who died of Kovid in India is not a few lakhs, but millions (multiples of 10 lakhs). Those who prepared the report include Abhishek Anand, Justid Sandefer and Arvind Subramanian. Let us inform that Subramanian has been the former Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India.

2 million deaths claimed in the first wave

According to the CGD report, during the first wave between March 2020 and February 2021, the Indian government failed to understand the scale of the tragedy in real time. The report blamed the negligence of the first wave for the outcry during the second wave. The report said that the first wave was more deadly than it was believed. It is estimated that around 2 million people died of covid during the first wave.

This report of estimates related to deaths in India has come at a time when the delta variant is wreaking havoc in many parts of the world. According to the information, most of the new cases in America are of this variant. Cases are in people who have not been vaccinated. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has said that 99 percent of deaths have occurred in people who were not vaccinated.
