Jamshedpur cafeteria holds global event empowering speech and hearing impaired

Jamshedpur, Aug 3: Shweta Goswami, a 21 years old hearing impaired from Bangalore won the title “Miss KhamoSHE DEAF 2021” (National Category) and bagged a cash reward of Rs 10,000.

Heaven Upadhayay (20), a hearing-impaired from Chainpur, Nepal won the title “Miss KhamoSHE DEAF 2021” (International Category) and bagged a cash prize of Rs10,000.

KhamoSheWithLife 5.0, a global event organised by city-based  La Gravitea,  a tea cafe was organised for empowering speech and the hearing-impaired community saw 77 entries from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Nigeria. The results were declared on Tuesday.

All 15 entries were shortlisted based on creativity and what people with speech and hearing impaired did for the society and environment during the Covid -19 pandemic.

The event was designed to promote ‘No Honking’ in Jamshedpur.

Shweta Goswami shared a video of cooking food for dogs at her home and feeding them in the streets as during the pandemic these animals were the most hit who couldn’t talk and express the hunger pangs they went through.

Heaven Upadhayay from Nepal shared a video of buying food and giving it to the poor, blind, and physically challenged on the streets. She had also put masks on the faces of blind people during the pandemic.

Samlam Chuilo, a 24-year-old  from Dimapur, Assam won the title “Miss KhamoSHE DEAF 2021” (1st Runner-up National Category) and bagged a cash prize of Rs 4,360.

She shared a video showing how she used kitchen waste in making compost to be used in her Terrace Garden for the growth of plants. By this, she portrayed how one can make ‘Best out of Waste’ for the betterment of the environment.

Laxmi Maharjan (25) from Kathmandu, Nepal won the title “Miss KhamoSHE DEAF 2021” (1st Runner Up International Category) and bagged a cash reward of Rs 4,360.

She shared a video showing the importance of face masks in the pandemic through face paintings.

Nayem Islam (16 ) from Bogra, Bangladesh won the title “Mr. KhamoSHE DEAF 2021” (Youth Achiever’s Award) and bagged a gift hamper.

He shared a video of tree plantation, feeding goats, and the importance of greenery in the pandemic.

Anjala Lahon ( 24) from Guwahati in Assam won the title “Mrs KhamoSHE DEAF 2021” (Youth Achiever’s Award) and won a gift hamper.

She shared a video of why children should take care of their elderly parents and she herself visited an old age home carrying home-cooked food and spent some time with them in the pandemic.

There was a total of six winners ( three from India, two from Nepal, and one from Bangladesh).

Located at the posh Circuit House Area La Gravitea , a high-end cafe only engages boys and girls, who are hearing and speech impaired.

The cafeteria which is operating for more than five years now has been set up by Avinash Dugar, a tea connoisseur and former vice-president of a Seraikela-Kharsawan based industry,  who quit his corporate career to start the cafe.

It is not an ordinary cafe. At La Gravitea , you place an order in a unique manner — using only sign language. And, in no time you are served fresh sandwiches, momos, and other snacks.

The cafe also serves a wide variety of tea sourced from different countries.

Dugar has trained them all to run the cafe and serve the customers with a smile and with proper etiquette.
