Dhanbad, Aug 6: The second coal mines museum-cum-coal tourism park of the country would be set up in the underground mines of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) soon.
Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of BCCL PM Prasad has directed Technical Director (DT) of the company Chanchal Goswamy to work on this project. In this regard, the DT has set up a three-member expert committee to visit Margherita Coalfield Museum Park of Assam so that the museum could be developed on the same pattern.
An official said this would be the second coal mines museum-cum-tourism park for the people in the country. The first museum is at Margherita Tinsukia district of Assam.
Sources said the museum-cum-tourism park project is the brainchild of CMD PM Prasad who wants to give this gift to BCCL before his retirement. Coal India Limited Chairman Pramod Agrawal had also endorsed the project during his Dhanbad visit last month.
A Coal company official said the coal museum-cum-park would be the centre of attraction for the people who are still unaware of coal mining in underground mines. The museum would preserve the history of coal mining. In the museum, visitors would know how mining is done in underground mines. They would also know how miners mine and what tools they use to extract coal in underground mines.
“ BCCL has closed underground mines and traditional mining tools that were used in mining in the initial stage before the modernization of mining technique are lying useless. Those mining tools could be used in the museum. People would get first-hand information about traditional mining tools of underground mines”, DT Chanchal Goswamy said.
The Coal company official said the closed underground mines of BCCL is safe for the museum-cum-tourism park. After getting the nod from the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), the mines monitoring highest body of the country, work on the museum would be started.
