Ranchi, Aug.2: Marijuana which was expected to reach Nepal from Odisha via Bihar and Jharkhand with the help of a UP-based drug peddler was seized in Jharkhand.
The quantity seized is 19kg. It is worth Rs 9 lakh in the market. Drug peddler, Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Birojpur under Azamgarh district in UP was also arrested.
The breakthrough came at the Kolebira bus stand in Simdega district after police swung into action after getting a tip-off.
“The drug peddler carrying a bag on his back and a carton was about to board the bus for Bihar when police acting on a tip-off reached to him. As he noticed the police, he attempted to flee but the police did not allow him to do so. He was arrested and marijuana recovered from his possession,” Superintendent of Police of the district Shams Tabrez informed sharing details.
So far police in Simdega have arrested as many as 24 drug peddlers on way to Nepal from Odisha and Chhattishgarh and seized as much as 1644.35 kg of marijuana from their possession. Police have also seized as many as 11 vehicles involved in the smuggling of drugs.
