Jamshedpur, Aug 27: A 55-year-old man identified as Jabbar Ansari was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Kapali in the outskirts of the steel city, early this morning.
The incident took place at around 6 am when Ansari, a former driver of Kapali thana which falls in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district was returning home from a nearby tea-stall.
Two Bike-borne youths who were following him opened fire from a close range near Dubi dam at Ansar Nagar killing the victim on the spot.
The gun- shots reverberated the area. Soon after the incident police from Kapali thana reached the spot, took the body into their possession and sent it to MGM Medical College for post-mortem.
According to police, Ansari sustained gun-shot injuries below the right earlobe. Police also recovered two empty gun cartridges from the spot.
A probe was initiated by police to know about the cause of the murder.
The initial probe suggests that the murder was an outcome of some land-related dispute.
Sources said Ansari used to go to the nearby Mochiram Chowk at Ansar Nagar for having his morning tea. Taking advantage of this the unidentified assailants attacked him.
Police have started carrying out raids in the area to nab the culprits.
Meanwhile, resentment was prevailing at Kapali among the locals as this was the second incident of murder in the last two months.
