Ranchi, Aug.30: Gumla police arrested those three who murdered an agriculture scientist from Karnataka, Lokesh Putta Swamy (50), and a fishery expert from Andhra Pradesh, Madila Devadasu (51), on the intervening night of August 23 and 25 by a sharp-edged weapon at a banana orchard near an old petrol pump in Ghaghra block headquarters under Ghaghra police station area of Gumla district.
Those arrested included Anand Tigga alias Anand Oraon, Arpan Oraon alias Tetru Oraon and Akash Oraon, all residents of Ghaghra. Tigga has connections with extremist organisation, JJMP. There are eight cases of murder against him. Police recovered a firearm with two rounds of ammunition from the possession of Tigga besides the bike and knife used in the crime.
Inspector S.N.Mandal said the incident took place when Swamy unknowingly called bad names for Tigga in a drunken stage in the latter’s front. The situation, he said, came when Tigga was standing in front of Banana Orchard gate and Swamy came out to close it.
“Tigga accompanied by his friends first looted Swamy and then killed him. When Devadasu attempted to flee they also killed him. They escaped using Devadasu’s bike and then set it on fire,” inspector Mandal said.
Probed further, inspector Mandal said: “Investigation is going on. One more is required to be arrested in this connection.”
