Ranchi, Sept.20: Mandar MLA and one of the four newly appointed executive presidents of Congress party, Bandhu Tirkey, has come under the scanner of the CBI after the apex investigating agency of the country probing the Sahibganj Mahila Thana in-charge Rupa Tirkey death case got an audiotape in which the MLA is heard luring the family members of the deceased police officer to no press for a CBI probe.
The MLA during his visit to the residence of Rupa Tirkey on June 10 is heard saying that he will help the family members get honourable amount, service and a petrol pump as compensation besides fair probe while convincing them to meet chief minister Hemant Soren.
Contacted Tirkey for his comment on the matter he denied allurement attempt saying his intention was to help the family, and nothing else.
“I was the first to write to the chief minister for high-level probe in the matter and take the family for a meeting with the chief minister for a fair probe. It was me who raised the matter within my party. My intention was to ensure that apart from a proper probe in the death case the family member should get proper compensation in lieu of loss of an earning member,” Tirkey said.
Asked to comment on the audio clip in the possession of CBI, Tirkey said: “If the CBI has got the audio clip let it ask me regarding this. I will reply.”
CBI is in action to probe the woman police officer’s controversial death. On September 16, an eight-member forensic team of CBI reached Sahibganj to probe into the death of Mahila police station in-charge Tirkey.
Earlier, another team of CBI had questioned four including a woman officer. The team had gone to Women’s College, Dahla Mohalla in the district to question a lady police officer, Sneh Lata Surin, associated with the case and kept on questioning her for two hours. Three police officials were questioned at the circuit house. The team also visited the residence of Tirkey.
On September 8, CBI had registered the case following Jharkhand Court’s direction.
Patna branch of CBI is probing the matter under the leadership of Dy SP Vishwambhar Dikshit. The number of the case is 0922021S0002.
Jharkhand High Court on September 1 directed CBI to take over the investigation.
