Canadians have led Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party to victory in the election on Monday, but their hopes of a major victory in most seats have failed to materialize. Justin Trudeau is going to become the Prime Minister of Canada for the third time; however, he could not get an absolute majority. Trudeau’s party won 14 seats less than an absolute majority. But for an absolute majority in Canada, a party must win 170 of the 338 seats in the Lok Sabha. Trudeau’s Liberal Party won 156 seats in these elections, while the Conservative Party won 123 seats.

In the last elections held in 2019, Trudeau’s party won 157 seats and the Conservative Party won 121 seats.  After that Trudeau himself called for the election last month. He hoped that his minority government could turn into a majority. But the results of these elections have been exactly the same as in the 2019 elections, when his party had to form a minority government.

Notably, he had expressed concern over the ongoing farmer movement in India. He had said that his country would always defend the right to peaceful demonstrations. He was the first world leader outside India to express his views on this issue. Addressing the Indian community in Canada during an online event to mark the 551st birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, Trudeau had said if he ignored “reports coming from India about protests by farmers”, he will definitely make a mistake.
