RAJ KUMAR
Ranchi, Sept.30: It was the last working day as a police officer of 1987 batch IPS, M.V.Rao, who superannuated from the post of DGP (Home Guard and Fireguards) after giving his service as the state police chief for 11 months ( March 15, 2020 to February 12, 2021).
Rao, who worked for more than 33 years in Bihar and Jharkhand besides going on central deputation as a CRPF officer, was regarded as a man of integrity. On May 27, 2003, when he was SSP, Ranchi, his role in handling domicile agitation successfully is still remembered by people in Jharkhand capital.
When he was ADG, CID, he hinted that a fake encounter of police with Maoists in Bakoria in which 11 were killed, was fake and it was his initiative that the matter is being probed by the CBI.
People also remember him for his role in handling extremism, coal mafia, land mafia and other anti-social elements. In mid-February this year he had hinted to quit before completion of this service after he was removed from the post of DGP but somehow he reviewed the decision and continued till his scheduled superannuation.
On his last working day, a parade was organized at JAP-1 ground in Doranda.
Rao could not be contacted for his comment on the last working day. Repeated calls and Whatsapp messages to him did not yield results though he is known for listening to all.
It is expected that he will work as a farmer after his retirement as during an interview with an electronic media reporter he said he will prefer farming as he belongs to a farmer’s family and remembered how his elder brother made sacrifices for his education.
