Uttarakhand rains: Death toll rises to 64; Amit Shah, CM Dhami conduct aerial survey of rain-affected areas

Dehradun, Oct 21: Heavy rains have caused severe floods in Uttarakhand. On Thursday, few more bodies were recovered, taking the death toll to 64. At least 19 people are injured and 11 people are still missing. Most of the deaths have been caused by cloudbursts and landslides.

Union Minister Amit Shah on Thursday conducted an aerial survey of the rain-affected areas. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also accompanied him with Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh. Shah will hold a meeting with officials in the presence of the Chief Minister after returning to Jollygrant airport.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar on Thursday announced that Chardham Yatra has resumed with the opening of a route for small or light vehicles to Badrinath Dham.

Notably, heavy rains caused floods in Uttarakhand. As per the report, the state registered 64 deaths so far. The maximum number of deaths were reported in Nainital. Damage to property has also been recorded following the incessant rains. As per the reports, 46 houses have either been damaged partially or completely.
