New Delhi, Oct.21: The Union Cabinet adopted the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan on Thursday, which includes a multi-modal connectivity implementation, monitoring, and support mechanism.
On October 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a Rs 100 lakh crore national master plan for multi-modal connectivity, with the goal of developing infrastructure to lower logistic costs and improve the economy.
Its goals include lowering logistic costs, increasing cargo handling capacity, and shortening turnaround times.
There will be a Cabinet Secretary-led Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS) including secretaries from 18 ministries as members, among others.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur told the media that a Multimodal Network Planning Group (NPG) will be formed, including representation from the heads of the Network Planning Division from several ministries and departments.
The NPG will be backed by a technical support unit (TSU) in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Logistics Division.
Domain experts from a variety of infrastructure sectors will be included in the TSU, including aviation, maritime, public transportation, rail, roads and highways, ports, power, pipeline, GIS, ICT; finance/market PPP, logistics, and data analytics, among others.
The EGOS has been mandated to review and monitor the implementation of the PM GatiShakti NMP to ensure logistics efficiency.
