DC’s order on KCC creates ripple in Dhanbad banks

Dhanbad Oct 22: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandeep Singh’s order to provide the list and reason of rejected Kisan Credit Card (KCC) applications has created a ripple in banks of Dhanbad.

While chairing the meeting of the District Level Consultative Committee (DLCC), the DC expressed grave concern over the poor acceptance of KCC applications in the last one month in the district and directed the representatives of all banks to provide the list of rejected applications with details of reasons behind it.

“It has been found that in the last one month, acceptance of KCC applications has been very poor. All banks should speed up the distribution of KCC and provide the farmer loan as per his target. If any branch faces any problem in giving KCC, put up the matter in the DLCC. But an indifferent attitude in the plan would not be accepted at any cost,” said the DC to the banks’ representatives.

The DC swung into action after Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Tundi MLA Mathura Prasad Mahto pointed out that farmers are complaining that Allahabad Bank Hariharpur branch in Topchanchi block and United Bank branch in Tundi block are not providing them the KCC. Taking serious note of it, the DC ordered all the banks representatives to provide details of rejected applications and its reason.

After the DLCC meeting, one bank’s representative admitted that this directive of the DC has landed them in trouble as it is tough to justify any solid reason behind rejecting the application of farmers.

“Besides KCC, banks should also monitor PM Street Vendors Swanidhi loan project at micro level,” added DC Sandeep Singh.

Permanent member of Lok Adalat, Vijay Singh, on the occasion advised banks’ representatives that before filing certificate cases for recovery of loan, they should take up the matter in Lok Adalat for settlement. “A three-member committee tries to settle the matter in 60 to 90 days in Lok Adalat,” he said.
