Varanasi, Oct.25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today unveiled a new pan-India healthcare system from his constituency, Varanasi.

“The health sector was ignored by previous governments… It has been neglected since the country’s independence ,” the Prime Minister remarked this while introducing the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, which will cost Rs 5,000 crore.

The Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, one of the greatest pan-India projects, aims to overcome gaps in public health infrastructure, particularly in terms of critical care and primary care in urban and rural areas.

The project will help the 17,788 rural health and wellness centres that are located throughout ten high-priority states. A total of 11,024 urban health and wellness centres will be built across all states as part of the initiative.

The initiative will establish integrated public health labs in all districts and provide a comprehensive spectrum of diagnostic services through a network of laboratories across the country.

A national institute for one health, four new national institutes for virology, a regional research platform for the WHO South East Asia Region, nine biosafety level-III laboratories, and five new regional national centres for disease control will be established as part of the project.
