Dhanbad, Nov 9: Dhanbad police have seized a Bihar bound Toyota car loaded with English liquor at the inter-state GT road (NH-2) near Gomoh Rangritand under Topchanchi police station, around 38.3 km away from district headquarters on Monday late night.
A senior police official said that the liquor was being smuggled to Jamui district of Bihar from Bokaro district of Jharkhand. Police have arrested the driver of the car along with a smuggler. However, the other liquor smugglers, who were escorting the car, managed to escape from the spot. Interestingly, the car has a registration number of Bengal.
Topchanchi police station officer-in-charge, Suresh Munda said that the incident took place at around 10.50 pm on Monday. The Toyota car on the way to Bihar skidded off the road after hitting a youth of Rangritand village on a bridge. After the incident, the driver and a smuggler tried to escape but the villagers overpowered them.
“Both were brought to Topchanchi police station and are being interrogated. Police are also counting the English liquor bottles and their brands. After completion of the interrogation, we will share the details,” said Suresh Munda.
The villagers charged that there were three cars loaded with liquor that were going on the road. One car was escorting them. But after the incident, the other three cars drove away. However, the OC said that when they reached the incident site, only one car was found turned turtle.
“After interrogation of the arrested liquor smuggler police would get information of other persons involved in the racket,” said Suresh Munda.
Although 12 hours of the incident have passed, the police have not filed an FIR against the arrested persons.
In the wake of tight checking at Jharkhand- Bihar border in Santhal Pargana division, liquor smugglers have been using GT road to continue supply in the neighbouring state at night.
