Jamshedpur, Nov  11: Tata Steel officials, with the help of the Andhra Police, conducted a raid on Sri Laksmi Narasimha Industries in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh on Thursday wherein counterfeit Tata Wiron Chain link fences were being sold in non-standard packaging.

Tata Wiron’s chain link fences are packaged in a unique manner and all original products are sold with the same packaging by authorised dealers and distributors.

On getting information about the unscrupulous activity, Tata Steel alongwith Andhra Pradesh police conducted a joint raid and seized 21 pieces of counterfeit product.

Police sources said an FIR has been lodged against the said entity under section 420 of IPC and sections 63 & 65  of the Copyright Act.

This unauthorised use of the Tata Wiron name is infringing on the Intellectual Property Rights of Tata Steel.

The owners were selling fake chain link fences of substandard quality and selling it to consumers disguised as original Tata Wiron products.

Tata Steel’s products possess goodwill in the minds of the consumers by virtue of the quality of the products.

Such unauthorised use of the Tata name on wire products, which do not meet the quality standards of Tata Steel products, hampers the reputation of the company, said an official.

The company strongly condemned the misuse of trademarks and logos of Tata Steel and Tata Sons without prior permission.

” Tata Steel will continue with these efforts in monitoring and acting against any such illegal activities which are negatively impacting its assets and the larger customer fraternity, ” added the official.
