Dengue cases in Delhi at record high in 6 years

New Delhi, Nov.15: A civic report released on Monday revealed that the number of dengue cases in Delhi this season has surpassed 5,270, the highest in the national capital in a year since 2015.

In the last week, the city has seen about 2,570 new instances of the vector-borne sickness. However, no new fatalities have been reported.

A total of 5,277 dengue cases were reported this year till November 13, according to the report on vector-borne diseases.

In the previous years, the total count of dengue cases was – 4,431 (2016), 4,726 (2017), 2,798 (2018), 2,036 (2019) and 1,072 (2020), according to the report.

The city has seen a huge dengue outbreak in 2015, with over 10,000 cases reported in October alone, making it the deadliest outbreak of the vector-borne disease in the national capital since 1996.

In Delhi this year, 3,740 dengue cases were registered in the first 13 days of November. There were 1,196 instances reported in October.

This year’s overall number of cases was 2,708, including nine confirmed deaths attributable to dengue fever as of November 6.

In September, 217 instances were reported, which was the highest monthly total in three years.

This is also the largest number of dengue-related deaths in the national capital in a year since 2017, when the official death toll was 10.
