Indonesia Open 2021: PV Sindhu wins against Aya Ohori, Srikanth defeats Prannoy

Bali, Nov 24: India’s two-time Olympic medalist and star shuttler, P V Sindhu, defeated Aya Ohori in the opening round of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 event on Wednesday.

After a slow start, Sindhu, engineered a turnaround to register a hard-fought 17-21, 21-17, 21-17 win over Japan’s Ohori in one hour and 10 minutes to advance to the pre-quarterfinals.

With the win, Sindhu improved her impressive record against the Japanese shuttler to 11-0 and entered the pre-quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth progressed to the next round of Indonesia Open. In an all Indian affair, Srikanth defeated HS Prannoy 21-15, 19-21, 21-12 in a match that lasted for 56 minutes.

Earlier in day, Sai Praneeth also progressed ahead in the Indonesia open after defeating France’s Toma Junior Popov 21-19, 21-18. The mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and N Sikki Reddy lost to the Japanese duo of Kyohei Yamashita and Naru Shinoya 21-12, 21-7.
