New Delhi, Nov 25: The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked Delhi Police to file a fresh affidavit having complete details and status of cases going before the trial courts in connection with the northeast violence.

A bench of Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh directed Delhi Police to file status report after a counsel appearing for Jamait ulema-i-hind alleges that the last status report filed by the police does not have many details.

The court has also adjourned the matter for January 28,2022 for a detailed hearing.

According to the Delhi Police last status report, total 695 cases are being investigated by the North-East District police out of registered 758 cases. The cases which pertained to major incidents like murder etc. were transferred to the Crime Branch. Delhi police also submitted that the FIRs arising out of or registered in connection with the riots have been or are being investigated promptly, diligently and in accordance with law by the Delhi Police, which is undertrial in courts.

Notably, around 53 people lost their lives in the violence that erupted in the northeast district of the national capital in February 2020, after clashes between two opposing factions over the Citizenship Amendment Act.
