New Delhi, Dec 8: Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday slammed Modi government for rising inflation and termed it insensitive towards farmers and common people.
“Let’s honour the 700 farmers who sacrificed their lives (during their stir). Modi government is insensitive towards farmers & common people. The rise in prices of essential commodities is burning the monthly budget of every family,” said Sonia Gandhi addressing the congress parliamentary party meet.
“The Centre believes in selling off the assets of India. Several public sector undertakings are being dismantled by the government,” she added.
On suspension of 12 MPs from Rajya Sabha, she said, it is “unprecedented & unacceptable”. “We stand in solidarity with the suspended MPs.”
This meeting by Congress comes amid protest by the opposition parties over the suspension of 12 MPs from Rajya Sabha for unruly conduct on the last day of the monsoon session of parliament.
Meanwhile, 120 Rajya Sabha Opposition MPs will join a sit-in protest in the Parliament Complex today over the suspension of 12 Upper House members. Twelve Opposition MPs — six from the Congress, two each from the Trinamool Congress and the Shiv Sena, and one each from the CPI and CPI(M) – have been on strike indefinitely since they were suspended last week for the entire Winter Session of Parliament.
Notably, Rajya Sabha on the first day of its business for the winter session on Monday suspended 12 members for the rest of the current session. The 12 Rajya Sabha MPs have been suspended on account of ‘unruly and violent behavior’ during the Monsoon session of Parliament.
