New Delhi, Dec.10: CDS General Bipin Rawat, who died in a helicopter crash near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, with his wife and 11 other armed forces members on Wednesday, will be cremated with full military honours in Delhi today.

The bodies of Gen Rawat and his wife will be held at their Delhi house starting at 11 a.m. for family, friends, and the general public to pay their tributes. At 2 p.m., the funeral procession will commence. The funeral will take place in the Brar Square Crematorium at 4 p.m., while Brigadier Lidder’s funeral will take place at 9 a.m.

The army has announced that people can pay their respects to General Rawat at his 3, Kamraj Marg residence between 10 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. today. Between 12.30 and 1.30 p.m., members of the armed services can pay their respects to the General.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects to those slain in the chopper tragedy on Thursday night.

He was accompanied by the 3 heads of Indian forces; Army Chief Gen MM Naravane, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and IAF chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari.

After paying his respects, the PM also met with the families of the deceased and extended his condolences to them.

The Mi-17V5 Air Force chopper carrying Gen Rawat, dubbed “the workhorse of the Air Force” and largely regarded as a reliable aircraft, crashed shortly after taking off from Sulur.
