Notably, Rohit sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday.
Priyank Panchal plays domestic cricket for Gujarat. The 31-year-old Priyank has also been the captain of the India-A team that toured South Africa. Priyank has played 100 first class matches so far and scored 7011 runs at an average of 45.52. These include 24 centuries and 25 half-centuries.

Meanwhile, former Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir feels opening batter Rohit Sharma missing the Test series against South Africa is a ‘massive blow’ for the visitors ahead of the tour.

“It’s a big blow for India and the way he batted in England, he would have like to go, South Africa, as he wouldn’t want to miss a Test while being in good form. He was just appointed as a vice-captain so its’s a massive blow,” said Gambhir.

India Test squad for South Africa tour –

Virat Kohli (Captain), KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Priyank Panchal, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), R Ashwin, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Md. Siraj.
