NIA begins probe into arms supply to CPI-Maoists in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Dec 15: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has started an investigation into the arms supply to CPI-Maoists and Aman Sahu gang in Jharkhand.

Taking over the case number 01/2021 registered by Jharkhand ATS, the NIA branch of Ranchi has started the investigation by registering a case (RC 04/2021/NIA RNC).

The NIA had registered the case under IPC Section 120B, CLA Act 17, UA(P) Act 13,19,20 and 21 and Arms Act 25(1B)A/26/35.  The entire matter will be investigated under the leadership of NIA SP, Shailendra Mishra.

The NIA has made CRPF jawans Avinash Kumar, Rishi Kumar, Pankaj Singh, Sanjay Singh, Muhajid Khan, Aman Sahu and Arun Kumar Singh as accused in the matter.

Notably, three people, including a CRPF jawan, who supplied arms and bullets to Naxalites and criminals in Jharkhand, were arrested by the ATS on November 16.  Those arrested included CRPF jawans Avinash Kumar alias Chunnu Sharma, Rishi Kumar and Pankaj Kumar Singh.  450 rounds of 5.56 mm bullets were seized on their spot.  After which Kamendra Singh of this gang was arrested on 18 November.

On November 25, on the spot of these arrested people, the ATS team, while raiding in many states including Bihar, Jharkhand, arrested BSF constable Karthik Behera, retired BSF constable Arun Kumar Singh, Kumar Gurlal, Shivlal Dhaval and Hirla Guman. Police also  recovered 14 pistols, 21 magazines, 9,213 rounds of bullets, empty kiosks, detonators, bikes and mobiles from these criminals.

The NIA investigation has revealed that civil contractors Mujahid Khan and Sanjay Singh were collaborating with CPI-Maoist members by providing them with money and other essential supplies to further their terrorist activities.  Mujahid Khan had supplied 250 rounds of INSAS bullets to the Maoists.  Mujahid Khan had given Rs 1.75 lakh to accused Rishi Kumar for the purchase of these pills.  On the behest of accused Rishi Kumar and Avinash Kumar, 450 rounds of 5.56 mm bullets were recovered from near Sheikh Bhikhan memorial of Chutupalu valley of Ormanjhi police station area of Ranchi district.  These bullets were to be supplied to Aman Sahu’s gang.

Apart from ammunition, these accused were also procuring country-made pistols and supplying it to the members of Maoist and criminal gangs.

During interrogation it has come to the fore that a large number of AK-47 and INSAS rifles have been provided to the Naxalites by the Avinash alias, Chunnu.  Apart from this, weapons and bullets have also been provided to various criminal gangs, including the Aman Sahu gang.  Apart from CRPF jawan Avinash Aman Sahu, he was in contact with Harendra Yadav, a criminal lodged in Sherghati Jail and Lallu Khan lodged in Gaya Jail. Illegal weapons to extremists and organized criminal gangs are being carried out by gangs operating in the border area of Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh and Buldhana district of Maharashtra.
