Mumbai, Dec 28: ‘Jersey,’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, was supposed to be released this Friday, but the makers have decided to postpone it.
According to the reports, this decision was made due to the country’s rising Omicron cases. While theatres in Delhi have closed, cinemas in Maharashtra are operating at only 50% capacity. Because of these roadblocks in the main circuits, the producers of ‘Jersey’ have decided to cancel the film’s theatrical release, which was scheduled for December 31.
“In view of the current circumstances and new covid guidelines we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of our film Jersey. We have received immense love from you all so far and want to thank you all for everything. Until then everyone please stay safe and healthy, and wishing you all the best for the new year ahead!! Team Jersey!!” the producers said in an official statement.
Film critic Taran Adarsh too, confirmed the same on Twitter, “#Xclusiv… #BreakingNews… #Jersey POSTPONED… WON’T RELEASE ON 31 DEC… New date will be announced shortly… Industry talk that #Jersey will be Direct-to-OTT release is FALSE (sic).”

Directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, the film is a remake of a Telugu drama of the same name.
“I have seen a lot of cricket as I am a huge cricket buff. You cannot be as good as a professional cricketer playing at international level, you can’t get there. The idea was just to get the personality of a cricketer in my character. The story of ‘Jersey’ is being told with a lot of emotion. That’s why the people would like to see this film, else they would like to see a match. The film is an in-depth drama which gives you an understanding of what can go on inside a sportsperson,” told Shahid in an interview.
The makers are yet to decide on the film’s next release date.
