Dhanbad, Dec 29: In the wake of the New Year celebration, the Dhanbad police administration has launched a comprehensive campaign against ‘drink and drive’ in the district.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar has directed the officer in-charges of all 48 police stations and outposts (OP) across the district to carry out comprehensive tests of the bike and four-wheelers drivers in their respective areas from 8 p.m.
The SSP said that under the drive, special focus has been put on the rowdy revellers of New Year at the time of their returning home in the evening after the celebration of picnic to check road accidents.
“Driving a vehicle in an intoxicated condition triggers road accidents. Those who drive vehicles in such conditions not only become victims themselves but also injure others. So, the police department has launched a comprehensive testing campaign against drink and drive,” said the SSP.
He further said that besides legal action, the officer in-charges of police stations have also been directed to realize fines from violators of the directive. For enforcing the directive, checking of vehicles has been started from last evening at all entry points of picnic spots in the district.
Police personnel in the civil dress have also been deployed at hot spots of New Year especially at Maithon Dam, Panchet Dam, famous picturesque Topchanchi lake and Bhatinda Fall. The SSP said that picnickers at the main parks of the coal city are also under surveillance to take quick action against rowdy elements disturbing the peaceful celebration.
