Ramgarh, Dec. 29: A 12-year-old boy was killed by a herd of elephants in Kusumdih under the Gola police station area of Ramgarh district on the early morning of Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Roshan Kumar.

Roshan Kumar had come to Kusumdih with his mother and was not aware of the presence of elephants in the area. There is a lot of outrage among the people of the area after the death of the minor. Hundreds of people from the village have gathered at the spot.  They blamed the Ramgarh district administration and the forest department for this incident.

People of the area said that a constant terror of elephants prevails in the area. The Forest Department and administration are not paying attention to this problem. The presence of elephants in the Maa Chhinnamastika temple area located in Rajrappa is also causing panic among the people coming to the temple.

Ramgarh MLA Mamta Devi said that there has been a terror of elephants in the area for the last three-four months.  Herds of wild elephants have caused a lot of damage in the area along with loss of life and property.

“The officials of the concerned department should show sensitivity to this. Elephant extermination equipment should be made available in that area. We have immediately provided an amount of ? 25000 to the victim’s family from the Forest Department.  They will get compensation after giving all the documents,” the MLA said.

She added that the elephants have vandalized the houses of the people and crops in the field have also been damaged.  The concerned departments should take action at the earliest to drive the elephants out of the area.
