New Delhi, Dec 29: A day after the Federation of Resident Doctor’s Association (FORDA) proposed three demands to end the protest over the delay in NEET PG counselling, it decided on Wednesday to continue the strike until the police issue a written apology for their behavior.

“Firstly , we want the concerned authorities to ensure that we should get a date for counselling right after the Supreme Court’s hearing on January 6 concludes. Secondly, we want apology from the authorities as the police manhandled the doctors. Thirdly, we want the withdrawal of FIRs registered against protesters,” said Dr Manish, FORDA President.

Meanwhile, the patients continue to bear the brunt of the strike by the doctors.

“Over 100 police personnel have been deployed at the site of agitation. This is also to ensure the law and order situation at the hospital. The situation is normal and under control as of now. The resident doctors are peacefully protesting here,” a senior police official said.

Yesterday, the Union Health Minister expressed regret for any misbehaviour on part of the police and urged resident doctors to rejoin work amid rising Covid cases. However, doctors from Hindu Rao and Kasturba hospitals have decided to lend their support to the protesting resident doctors and withdraw their services with immediate effect.

A letter was written by to the resident doctors’ association to Hindu Rao Hospital medical superintendent, stating that resident doctors and interns have decided to withdraw all services, including emergency, to register their protest against violence allegedly meted out to resident doctors who were marching peacefully to the Supreme Court.

Notably since November 27, the RDAs across the country have been protesting against the multiple postponements of the NEET PG Counselling 2021 and the subsequent admission of the fresh batch of resident doctors in the medical colleges.
