Dumka, Jan 5: At least ten persons travelling in a passenger bus died following the head-on collision with a speedy truck laden with LPG cylinders this morning near Paderkola along Amrapara-Littipara road under Amrapara police station of Pakur district.
The incident which has also left nearly two dozen passengers injured is believed to have been caused by the low visibility coupled with the rogue driving of the LPG laden truck.
The ill fated bus Krishna Rajat had started from Barharwa (Sahebganj) which at around 6 a.m., regularly runs up to Jasidih via Dumka.
Senior administrative and police officials including Pakur DC Varun Ranjan and SP Hrudeep P Janardhanan rushed to the spot soon after being informed about the incident. They initiated the rescue of passengers who were trapped inside and sent to the Sadar Hospital for treatment.
The number of casualties according to the SDPO Pakur Ajit Kumar Vimal may rise in view of the severity of the injuries of more passengers.
He said that those being severely injured will be referred to the outside hospital for better treatment after administering primary medication to them.
Eyewitnesses account said that the collision was so intense that most of the passengers sitting in the front side of the bus were trapped as few among those sitting in the rear side could any how managed to jump out from the window in a desperate manner.
Meanwhile, a chaotic scene has emerged in the hospital where the dead and injured persons have been taken for treatment with their family members having started thronging as the news of the road accident spread.
