Washington, Jan 11: 141,385 COVID-19 cases were reported in hospitals in the United States on Monday, with medical professionals struggling to treat the afflicted patients amid an unprecedented outbreak of the coronavirus.

According to The Washington Post, this number fell just short of the previous high of 142,273 cases reported on January 14, 2021, when the pandemic was at its apex in the country.

In the meanwhile, Colorado, Oregon, Louisiana, Maryland, and Virginia have proclaimed or approved public health emergencies.

Three days during the coronavirus pandemic’s bloodiest month There appears to be no relief in sight as the number of corona cases in the country continues to rise. Nurses and other hospital workers continued to become ill, leading to high nurse-to-patient ratios in some areas, according to the Washington Post.

The highly transmissible omicron variety, on the other hand, threatens to shatter that standard. If models of omicron’s spread are accurate — even the researchers who create them recognize that forecasting during a pandemic is tough — present numbers may look insignificant in a matter of weeks. When the peak is reached, perhaps later this month, disease modelers expect total admissions in the 275,000 to 300,000 range.

According to research from Johns Hopkins University, the overall number of COVID-19 cases in the US topped 60 million on Sunday, and the virus has killed at least 837,594 people in the US since January 2020.

The United States remains the country most affected by the pandemic, accounting for roughly 20% of all cases and deaths worldwide. It also accounts for more than 15 per cent of global mortality.

On November 9, 2020, the US COVID-19 caseload reached 10 million, crossed 20 million on January 1, 2021, surpassed 30 million on March 24. Furthermore, the caseload surpassed 40 million on September 6, and surpassed 50 million on December 13, reported the news agency.
