The electric vehicle manufacturer has been urging the Indian government to lower the import duty on electric vehicles to 40%, claiming that this will make them more affordable and increase sales.

Before seeking government aid, the Ministry of Heavy Industries and the Ministry of Finance had encouraged Tesla to improve localization and reveal ramp-up plans, as well as contemplate local manufacturing of cars.

However, the corporation has made no promises or assurances in this regard.
