Ranchi, Jan 17: The state government is set to remove names of four lakh ration card holders of Jharkhand will be deducted from the list of beneficiaries, the process for which has begun. As per a new rule of the government, it is necessary that card holders use the ration card every month. If not done for a long time, the card may be cancelled and the name revoked from the list.
Apart from this, the names of people selling up to 200 quintals of paddy are also included in this list of names that are to be removed. This has been disclosed by Minister Rameshwar Oraon himself. He said that during a departmental inquiry, it came to light that there are 65 thousand people of the state that sell more than 200 quintals of paddy every year. The department is in the process of removing these names from the list.
Notably, this process was supposed to start earlier in the month, but was delayed due to the sudden wave of coronavirus cases. On the other hand, as soon as the Public Distribution System Shopkeepers Association came to know about this, they started opposing this decision of the government. They say that many people are not aware of this new rule of the government. In such a situation, if they do not need ration for any month, then they do not take ration. In such a situation, lakhs of ration card holders might suffer a big loss.
However, the government says that this step has been taken to make the scheme transparent and prevent black marketing. The government also says that the PDS shopkeepers have been asked to spread information about the new rule, especially in the rural sections of the state
