New Delhi, Jan 21: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to send five reserve players to the Caribbean after a run of positive Covid-19 instances appeared in the Indian camp during the recent U19 World Cup.

Udhay Saharan, Abhishek Porel (wicketkeeper), Rishith Reddy, Ansh Gosai, and PM Singh Rathore are the reserve players. The players will be taken to the Caribbean right away, according to sources watching the situation.

“Yes, the board has decided to send five reserve players to the Caribbean. They will undergo six-day isolation upon reaching. We are hoping that the team tops their Group B so that everyone is fit and available for the quarterfinal clash on January 29,” said the sources.

India has already defeated South Africa and Ireland in their first two matches, and the colts will face Uganda in their last group B match on Saturday.

The BCCI announced on gameday against Ireland that four India players, including skipper Yash Dhull and vice-captain SK Rasheed, had tested positive for Covid-19.

Two other players were exhibiting symptoms and had RT-PCR testing performed on them. As a result, six players were placed in isolation, and India had to play Ireland with a weakened squad.

Notably, on Wednesday, a depleted India team led by Nishant Sindhu managed to defeat Ireland by 174 runs.
