Dhanbad  Jan 22: Banned CPI Maoists kick-started their week long protest days (January 21 to January 26) by blowing up two mobile towers in Pirtand block around, 24 km away from Giridih district headquarters in the intervening night of Friday- Saturday.

As per the report reaching district police headquarters, the maoists blew up the first mobile tower under Khukhara police station at around 11.30 p.m. of Friday and second  under Madhuban police station at around 1.30 a.m. of Saturday.

High intensity explosives are believed to have been used in blowing up both the mobile towers. The Maoists also left their posters on the spot urging people’s support to them in making the week long protest a grand success.

However, the police did not apprehend the Maoists. They got the information of the incident at night as both the towers were hardly a few km away from both the police stations but did not take any action. In the morning today, senior officials of the headquarters reached the spots for investigation.

Against the arrest of dreaded Naxal Prasant Bose and his wife Sheela Marandi and their alleged ill treatment in jail, Maoists have called upon week-long protest days from January 21 to January 26. The banned organization has also called for Jharkhand- Bihar bandh on January 27.

Police officials of Giridih said that Prasant Bose was carrying a reward of Rs 1 crore on his head. His arrest has broken the network of the banned organization in the region.

Pirtand, Madhuban region of Giridih are considered as dens of banned organizations. Last year, Giridih police had nabbed dreaded Maoists wanted in several incidents in Giridih, Dumka and other districts of  Jharkhand.

Police officials said in the wake of a week-long protest call, tight security arrangements have been made in the region. Adopting a hit and run strategy, the Maoists managed to blow up mobile towers in forest dominated areas.
