SC lawyers receive threat calls over Article 370 again

New Delhi, Jan 24: Many Advocates-on-Record (AoRs) who practise before the Supreme Court of India received an automated call from an unknown number this morning warning that the Kashmir flag would be hoisted in Delhi on Republic Day.

The caller said that the Supreme Court, as well as the Modi government, were both responsible for the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution.

This isn’t the first time AoRs have been contacted in this manner.

AoRs got calls earlier this month from unknown numbers in the United Kingdom and Canada claiming responsibility for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach at the Hussainwala flyover in Punjab.

The call, which claimed to be from Sikhs for Justice, also included a warning to Supreme Court judges not to hear a public interest lawsuit brought by an NGO called Lawyers Voice seeking an investigation into the security breach.

As AoRs are lawyers who can file lawsuits in the Supreme Court, their phone numbers are public, which could be one reason they’re getting these calls.
