Ranchi, Feb 3: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday approved the formation of the Co-ordination Committee of Jharkhand Congress which will be chaired by the newly-appointed state party in-charge Avinash Pande.

AICC secretary KC Venugopal released the list of the members of the newly formed committee.

Co-in-charge of the state unit Umang Singhar will be the convenor of the coordination committee. The coordination committee which will take all important decisions of the party has 17 members.

State president Rajesh Thakur, ministers namely Alamgir Alam, Rameshwar Oraon, Banna Gupta and Badal Patralekh besides former union minister Subodh Kant Sahay, former state presidents Dr. Ajoy Kumar, Pradeep Balmuchu and Sukhdeo Bhagat, MPs Dhiraj Prasad Sahu and Geeta Koda, MLAs Pradeep Yadav and Bandhu Tirkey have been accommodated in the committee. Jaleshwar Mahato and Shahzada Anwar too have found a place in the committee.

All three former state presidents have been rewarded with a place in the committee who have lately returned to the party fold.

The decision for the formation committee was taken after Avinash Pande held a marathon meeting with leaders and workers to get their feedback on the affairs of the party in Jharkhand.

“Many leaders had complained about the lack of communication and

coordination within the party and the government. Hence the new in-charge decided to form the committee and you can see that all the important leaders have been picked as a member of the committee. The ultimate objective is to run the party on the consensus basis so that the party grow and we serve people in a better way,” said Rajiv Ranjan Mishra

But many leaders are still not clear about the role and responsibility of the newly formed committee. “Don’t know whether the committee will coordinate within the party or with the government or both,” said a leader.

Confusion is because the Jharkhand Congress has no history of such a body that goes by this name or otherwise.

One of the members of the committee however said it will act as a forum where leaders and workers can raise their issues. This will also discuss and decide policy issues. RPN Singh who was responsible for affairs of the party as state in-charge, suddenly quit and joined the BJP.

After his exit, many leaders and workers demanded a review of all the decisions and appointments made by Singh. These leaders are indirectly targeting Rajesh Thakur as RPN’s man. No wonder the coordination committee is a watchdog for the post-RPN RPN era.
