Dumka, Feb 5: Police have finally nabbed Santosh Kumar Yadav, the prime suspect of the murder of a government employee in Rural Development Department Deep Kumar Srivastava.
Deep’s dead body was recovered on February 1 from Dangal Pada-Shiv Mandir road under town police station limit.
Yadav, a resident of Rasikpur locality under town police station itself is a contractor registered with the Rural Development Department where the deceased was employed as a clerk. Both are said to have been friends ever since the latter was transferred to Dumka two years back.
Yadav emerged as the prime suspect in this case when the wife of the deceased employee told police that her husband was accompanied by someone named Santosh while talking with her for the last time the previous evening of the recovery of his body.
It was after her submission that police zeroed in on Santosh Kumar Yadav who had mysteriously vanished from the scene.
As of now when Yadav has been caught, the police have been searching for the mobile phone of the deceased in Singhara Pokhara, a pond the locality around is known after, by engaging the divers. The phone’s recovery is also believed to be crucial for cracking the murder mystery.
Police, meanwhile, have not yet come forward with the exact intention of the culprits behind Srivastava’s murder which is otherwise being largely linked with the Rs 1.42 crore scam that took place in his department three months back with three persons including two of his colleagues been already in jail.
Dumka SP Ambar Lakra however said that Srivastava’s murder case would soon be unfolded and that the investigation was going on in the right track.
The SP has also ordered a probe into the allegations made by the relatives of the deceased that he was extorted with Rs 7 lakh by the cops at town police station against freeing him from the financial scam case of his department.
“It will be premature to declare the murder of Deep Kumar Srivastava having any link with the financial scam case of his department until the dots are finally connected,” the SP said.
