BJP cancels UP, Goa manifesto launch after Lata Mangeshkar’s demise

The politicians observed a two-minute silence in memory of the late musician.

New Delhi, Feb 6: As a token of respect for Lata Mangeshkar, the BJP has decided to postpone the release of its manifesto for the Uttar Pradesh and Goa elections on Sunday.

“Today we received a very sad news, that of the demise of singing legend Lata Mangeshkar. A legend like her is born once in a lifetime. In her memory, mourning has been declared and hence we have decided to postpone the release of the Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra. The next date of release of Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra would be announced later,” said UP BJP leader Swatantra Dev.

The Uttar Pradesh BJP’s manifesto launch, for which Union Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and party leaders Swatantra Dev and Keshav Maurya were in Lucknow, was postponed, and the politicians observed a two-minute silence in memory of the late musician.

The party’s Goa unit chief Sadanand Shet Tanawde said , “As we all grieve the demise of Legendary Singer Lata Didi Mangueshkar, the BJP has decided to cancel all its programs scheduled for the day, today.”

He also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual gathering, Jan Sankalp Sabha, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. has been cancelled, and that the Goa BJP will announce the new schedule later.

Earlier, the government has declared a two-day period of mourning for the legendary singer, whose state funeral will take place tonight evening in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park.
