Bengaluru, Feb 7: Students wearing “hijab” were allowed to access the campus of Government PU College in the Kundapura area of the Udupi district on Monday, amid a heated controversy over the adoption of a uniform dress code in educational institutions in Karnataka. The college administration, however, protesting students would seat in separate classrooms if they are allowed to enter.

Karnataka police apprehended two persons carrying ‘lethal weapons’ near the Government PU College in Kundapur earlier today, where a protest over the wearing of the ‘Hijab’ is taking place. Three other suspects, according to authorities, were able to flee. “Both of the arrested suspects are from Gangolli, a village close to Kundapur.”Police have filed a report,” they stated.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Education Minister B C Nagesh stated on Sunday that students who do not want to follow the uniform dress code are free to pursue other options.
“Just as rules are followed in the military, the same is to be done here (in educational institutions) as well. Options are open for those who are not willing to follow it, which they can make use of,” Nagesh told reporters.
The minister urged students to avoid being “tools” in political parties’ hands.
The Bommai administration issued a circular on Saturday prohibiting the wearing of clothing that disrupts peace, harmony, and law and order in educational institutions across the state.
