Udupi, Feb 13: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been issued around all high schools in Karnataka’s Udupi district in the wake of the hijab controversy. The prohibition orders will take effect at 6 a.m. on Monday, February 14th, and will be in effect until 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 19th.
This implies that until Saturday, all meetings and agitations are prohibited in the district’s high school region.
After the Superintendent of Police made a request to Kurma Rao, the Deputy Commissioner in Udupi, Section 144 was enacted. He proposed that prohibitory orders be enacted in a 200-meter radius surrounding the district’s high schools.
Bengaluru officials have previously issued prohibitory orders prohibiting any type of gathering outside the city’s schools and institutions.
Around Bengaluru’s schools, PU colleges, degree colleges, and other educational institutions, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was enacted. The prohibition order will remain in place until February 22nd.
Notably, the Karnataka hijab debate began after a group of young Muslim students in the Udupi district were denied entry to their institution because they wore hijabs.
